With the development of modern power telecommunication network and the increase of communication services, the issue of fault location is concerned greatly. Regardless of a variety of fault location methods, the telecommunication system gradually become more and more complex and continuously adds new communication business, resulting in difficulty of fault location. In addition, due to characteristics of existing fault location, it’s difficult to apply complex fault reasoning. In traditional power telecommunication network, rule-based fault location is mainly used, which rule is developed by experts, using alarm match to locate fault. Rule-based reasoning of fault location isn’t combined of network topology, which is not adapted constantly changing network. But in practice, rules are changing and developing, which increases difficulty of rules management. What’s more, the numbers of rules increase exponentially increase the complexity of the fault analysis. Meanwhile, rules are developed by experts, leading to lack of self-learning ability. To overcome these shortcomings, we propose a codebook-based reasoning of fault location in power telecommunication network.Codebook-based reasoning of fault location uses causal map as fault propagation model and updates context information, while network topology changes. So it has self-adapting and self-learning ability. Codebook-based reasoning of fault location adopts model-event correlation analysis as theoretical basis, which abstracts network element as event, formats cause and effect diagram, and reduces rules management. What’s more, it can locate different layer of network fault. Therefore, codebook-based reasoning of fault location is very suitable in power telecommunication network. This paper analyzes fault location technology research, compares advantages and disadvantages of traditional methods of fault location, and summarizes problems of fault location. So, author proposes codebook-based reasoning of fault location. Firstly, it describes basic idea and basic process of codebook-based reasoning of fault location, and uses concrete example to explain the codebook algorithm. Secondly, it describes the implementation process of the codebook algorithm in detail. Thirdly, it introduces application scenarios and result analysis of codebook algorithm of fault location. Therefore, the coding fault location algorithm is verified as a feasible and effective fault location algorithm.
