As the important component of the radio-frequency transmitters, radio-frequency power amplifiers play a key role in the performance of the radio-frequency transmitters. This radio-frequency power amplifiers are used in a variety of transmitters, mainly for the purpose of amplifing the radio-frequency signal and outputing great power efficiently. Actually the essence of the radio-frequency power amplifier is,under the control of the radio-frequency signal,to change the power DC power into radio frequency,so the conversion efficiency will directly determine the performance of the transmitters. In order to meet the transmitter structural requirements of high efficiency and linearity, it is a a good choice to choose to study high efficient radio-frequency power amplifierBecause of the high efficiency and high output power,class-E radio-frequency power amplifiers get an extremely wide range of applications in wireless communication system, especially in some of the new transmitter structures. In this article,we mainly research the class-E power amplifiers with high efficiency.Firstly,it introduces design approach of the high efficient power amplifiers on the basis of the understanding of the theories, figuring out creative points in theories. What’s more, the article outlines the performance and linearization techniques, making it possible for improving the properties of the amplifiers. Then we focus on the design philosophy and process of the class-E power amplifier, aiming for improving the efficiencyBy using the ADS radio-frequency power amplifier to model and simulate,we also describe a typical power amplifier design and research which has a frequency of 1.96 GHz,the output power of 39 dBm,and a gain of 16.5dB.On the foudation of the prior works,we analysis the amplifier’s DC bias,AC characteristics and stability, combining this work with the Smith drawings, to design input and output impedance matching circuit and filter circuit by using microstrip line.Meanwhile according to the simulation results we can optimize the performance parameters and structures of the power amplifier. Finally,we try to show the design of radio-frequency PCB board diagram for this radio-frequency power amplifiers, make it out and test its overall performance. The results show the the class-E power amplifier at a specific frequency which can achieve the desired goals.
