Image fusion is a novel technology that remove the redundant part of the largeamounts of data and to extract useful information through some algorithm to obtain newimage with more value. It is beneficial to person eye observation and computer tofurther calculation, analysis and processing. With the development of image fusiontechnology, infrared and visible image fusion technology has been widely used inmilitary, security surveillance and face recognition and other fields. The grayscaleimage fusion method based on fuzzy logic and the color image fusion method based onfuzzy logic have been proposed in this paper, this method will help us to further developand improve the image fusion technology theoretical system.Grayscale image fusion method based on fuzzy logic includes two parts,multi-resolution analysis of images and fusion rules of images. In this paper, we adoptthe multi-resolution analysis tools such as Laplace Pyramid Transform, WaveletTransform, Stationary Wavelet Transform and Nonsampled Contourlet Transform. Thesource images are decomposed into low frequency component and high frequencycomponents by the multi-resolution analysis tools. The new mathematical method ofFuzzy logic was used in the field of image fusion, because of the uncertainty of fuzzylogic sets, the fuzzy membership function was applied in the low frequency componentof image fusion rules. A large number of experiments show that infrared and visibleimage fusion algorithm based on fuzzy logic obtains a good fusion effect.IHS space transform was adopted in color image fusion method based on fuzzylogic to extract the I (brightness) component of the color visible image. Then theinfrared image and the I component image are decomposed into the low frequencycomponents and high frequency components by using the multi-resolution analysis tools.The low frequency components are fused by using the fusion rules based on the fuzzylogic which has been proposed in this paper, the high frequency components are fusedby using the fusion rule based on the maximum of the absolute value, and then the Inewcomponent was obtained by multi-resolution inverse transform of fusion sub-images,finally, the fused color image was obtained through IHS inverse transform of Inewcomponent and H, S component. The experiments show that the color image fusionmethod based on fuzzy logic is valid.Infrared and visible images technology based on fuzzy logic are studied in this paper, the aim is to develop a new image fusion algorithm with faster processing speeda better fusion effect. Meanwhile, it will provide a new approach of infrared and visibleimages fusion technology. But the image fusion method based on fuzzy logic still hassome disadvantages, such as the lack of precise image registration system and theeffective objective evaluation system of color image. Only the preliminary study ofimage fusion technology was discussed in this paper, there are still lots of furtherdiscussion and research to be done in the future.
