The marine lateral thruster is called lateral thruster for short, it is a new propulsiondevice which emerges as the modern Marine development. As the large-scale andspecialization of ship and the more and more high demands to ship maneuvering, more andmore ships are asked to install lateral thrusters for auxiliary manipulation. The lateralthruster has become the indispensable and important means to the ship maneuvering.Therefore, the researches for lateral thruster and its control system are particularlyimportant.Through lucubrating related articles about Siemens PLC, variable frequency speedregulation system, lateral thruster and its control system, this thesis formulated the Systemsolutions, Built hardware platform with PLC, frequency converter and FPP lateral thruster,designed the WinCC monitoring system and the programs of Siemens PLC which are usedfor manipulating and monitoring FPP lateral thruster device, realized the OperatingPositions switching, starting, stopping, speed control, alarm monitor and safety protectionfunction etc.In the actual sailing process, the ship sailing environment is usually not sure, it isdifficult to describe accurately through the traditional mathematical tools. The manipulationof the lateral thruster device is almost driven by manually control according to usuallyexperience, in a very complicated situation, it’s hard to reach the ideal control effect.Therefore, it is very necessary for the lateral thruster device to add a automatic controlsystem which is based on intelligent control algorithm. This thesis designed a automaticcontrol system which is based on PLC and one dimensional normal cloud model algorithmin order to realize that the ship can avoid obstacle automatically.In this paper, the marine lateral thruster device was introduced systematically, whichwill raise people’s understanding of the lateral thruster in a certain degree, built the FPPlateral thruster control system with PLC, frequency converter and FPP lateral thruster,realized the cloud model algorithm on PLC, for the first time, and applied it to the FPPlateral thruster control system, it also provide a new control thought for the control of theship. The FPP lateral thruster control system which was designed in this paper was providedwith good performance, simple structure, high efficiency, energy saving, safety, reliabilityand low cost, it has a certain role in promoting lateral thruster device widely used in allkinds of vessels and improving the manipulation performance of all kinds of ship.
