Research On Personalized Services Model Based On The Topic Map

Along with the rapid growth of information resources nowadays, major changes have taken place in users’ information requirements. On one hand, users’ information requirements have been replaced by knowledge requirements. On the other hand, users are more willing to get personalized information service. To this end, the design of effective information systems that not only facilitate knowledge organization and navigation, but also provide personalized user services, has become a key concern in the research domain of digital libraries.The structure of this paper is organized as follows. Personalized services in existing digital libraries and corresponding problems are investigated. Afterwards, a topic map based personalized services framework for digital libraries is proposed, followed by the detailed description of user interests model using the topic map. Based on that, the topic map based personalized service framework are presented. Finally, personalized search and recommendation services based on users’ interests topic-base are discussed. The design of users’ interests topic-base consists of the retrieving and converting of users’ interests, in addition to the constructing and updating of uses’ interests topic-base. As far as the personalized services are concerned, topic map based personalized services framework is proposed. We also analyze the functionalities of different function components, and the process of personalized search and recommendation. In this paper, users’ interests retrieved by the system are mapped into the topic map, using the three-layer knowledge structure represented by the topic map of digital libraries. Based on that, resource sharing between users and digital libraries is achieved and users’ interests topic-base is constructed. This framework sustains personalized search service and recommendation service based on users’ interests topic-base, which improves the quality of personalized services in digital libraries.Innovation of this paper is that, by adopting users’ interests topic-base instead of traditional user models, the personalized service system enables the representation of users’ interests, as well as integrating the organization of users’ interests and resources in digital libraries. Besides, the system is able to proceed and analyze the information resources before responding to the users according to their interests. Last but not the least, users are allowed to review and filter resource topics, and construct their personal topic maps, which supports the organization and integration of personal knowledge structure.
