Nowadays, English as one of the basic education subjects becomes more and more important The Syllabus for Full-time Senior High School English Course also promotes to help students develop effective English learning strategies. The new English Course Standard for Senior High School not only emphasizes learning skills and learning strategies, but also emphasizes stimulating students’ English learning interest, developing their positive attitudes towards English, and making them build up self-confidence during their English learning. Therefore, the writer thinks that motivation, especially interest is very important. Through teaching practice, the writer found that English learning interest takes an important role in English learning results and English learning interest can be cultivated.This thesis deals with a study on the interest in English learning of students in Yaoan County. This study was conducted on 120 first-year students of No.1 Middle School in Yaoan County. The result of the study shows that students’ English learning interest was comparatively lower in this poor area, and that their learning interest decreased dramatically after they entered senior high school, which, to a large extent, contributed to an obvious decrease in their learning time after class and their low achievement in learning. In turn, low achievement became a major reason for low interest as well. Through the case study, the writer found that the teacher’s interference with the learning process can have some positive effects on them. Therefore language teachers should take some measures to help students improve their learning interest, and the students themselves should try to cooperate with their teachers’ help as well.The study also shows that cultivating students’ English learning interest is very important. It is necessary for teachers to make a conscious, systematical effort to cultivate and improve students’ English learning interest, and to establish a harmonious interaction with students. Thus it makes senior high school students’ English learning a kind of positive and initiative interest so as to set up a learning concept: "it is not that I have to learn English, but that I want to learn English," in order to gain good learning results.
