| In the general background of economic globalization and mass education, as well asunder the guidance of the idea of lifelong education, the reform of adult highereducation, an important integral part of higher education, has attracted much attentionand become the focus of educators’ research in recent years. The adult higher educationin Chongqing shall also take the indispensable duty to cultivate a large number ofinterdisciplinary talents together with other educational forms. As a kind of teachingmanagement system, the credit system has many features and superiorities. For example,it shows the modern educational idea of “Being student-oriented, attaching importanceto the overall development of students, paying attention to individual difference, andlaying stress on teaching students according to their aptitudeâ€. It is also beneficial tofurther deepen the reform of school-running system of adult higher education; toimprove communication and cooperation between institutions of higher learning and thesociety, and also among institutions of higher learning; to establish the lifelongeducation system and form the learning-oriented society. At present, there exist a lot ofproblems in the reform of the credit system in adult higher education of regularinstitutions of learning in Chongqing although great progress has been made because itis still in the process of continuous exploration and practice.By means of documents, comparison and case study, and based on modernpedagogy, educational administration and humanistic education, this paper makes atheoretical study on the credit system in adult higher education of regular institutions ofhigher learning in Chongqing. By analyzing the present situation about the credit systemin adult higher education of regular institutions of higher learning in Chongqing, itexpounds the necessity to implement the credit system in adult higher education,discusses various barriers existing in introducing the teaching management mode of thecredit system to adult higher education of regular institutions of higher learning inChongqing, and puts forward the corresponding strategies according to the existingproblems.The paper is divided into five parts. The first part introduces the researchbackground and literature review, points out the significance to implement the creditsystem in adult higher education, and presents the research methods according to thepresent situation and the students’ characteristics in adult higher education. The secondpart points out it is inevitable that the scholastic year system should be replaced by thecredit system in the reform of adult higher education by explaining the connotation, features and improvement of the credit system, as well as the necessity to implement thecredit system. The third part presents the current situation about the implementation ofthe credit system in adult higher education in the U.S. and the U.K. and concludes thevaluable experience that can be used in the implementation of the credit system in adulthigher education of regular institutions of higher learning in Chongqing. The fourth partanalyzes the present situation of carrying out the credit system in adult higher educationof regular institutions of higher learning in Chongqing and the major problems and itscauses which involve guiding ideology, management mechanism, curriculum system,hardware resources, teachers etc. The fifth part discusses the strategies of the teachingmanagement reform of the credit system in adult higher education of regular institutionsof higher learning in Chongqing from the perspective of the external managementstrategy and the internal management strategy.By discussing the existing problems and strategies about the introduction of thecredit system to adult higher education of institutions of higher learning in Chongqing,this paper points out that the application of the credit system in adult higher educationcomplies with the objective requirements of economic, cultural and scientific&technological development in Chongqing, and it is the only way to realize thesustainable, steady and healthy development of higher education in Chongqing.Although there exist some difficulties in the application of the credit system in adulthigher education according to the present situation of the regular institutions of higherlearning in Chongqing, the implementation of the credit system in adult highereducation can be expected soon, as long as the educators and scholars in the regularinstitutions of higher learning free their minds and have the courage to make explorationand innovation. |
