Shyness, can be seen everywhere in life, but not been paid enough attention. In recent years, the percentage of self-reported shy person has escalated nearly50%in the United States, while this is reached to60%and is growing in Eastern countries. A certain degree of shyness do not disturb people’s normal life, but if the extend of shyness is too high, it may seriously affect people’s life, work and study, even lead to problems of mind and body. With the process of worldwide studying on shyness, it is found that shy children are prone to some environmental maladaptive problems such as undesirable interpersonal relationship and low school achievement etc. However, most of the studies for adults’shyness are confined in some social context so that lack of their own activities such as emotion and learning, which also show whether shy adults adapt to the environment or not.In this paper, the progress of studying about shyness in china and abroad was firstly reviewed, moreover some open question was analyzed in this field, and some research ideas was proposed. Then, we carried out a survey of the situation about Chinese college students’shyness and environmental adaptation using College Students’Shy Scale and China College Students Adjustment Seale and analyzed the relationship between them. Finally, in order to reduce the extend of shy experience and achieve the effect of improving situation of environmental adaptation of college students, some countermeasures and suggestions were proposed from three aspects, family education, school education and students themselves, according to some theoretical studies on shyness.The main results were abstained in the research are as follows:(1) The characteristics of the college students’ shyness:The shyness of college students is in the middle level. But there are great differences among individuals wherever in their shyness level and performance. The most frequent performance is seeking agree, and then followed by remorse, refusing to fear and the self-restraint of expression. Boys are more likely to feel shy than girls. Sophomores are more likely to feel shy than freshmen.(2) The relationship between college students’shyness and adaptation to the environment:The worse feel the shy, the worse situation of the grade’s environment adaptation. The higher level of student’s shyness, the worse the environmental adaptation. The various dimensions of shyness performance and the various dimensions of environmental adaptation performance are significantly inversely related, and have a significant role in the prediction.(3) Reducing the level of the college students’ shyness, can improve the ability of adaptation.
