Provinces in the frontier areas, playing a role as wall, are important to China. In the period of the Republic of China, frontier provinces were in the midst of crisis and complex national problems. Under this circumstance, the development of frontier areas and borderland education policy are proposed to deal with the problems and to consolidate the national defense. Being a tool for politics, implementing the education in border areas helps to popularize political system of the Republic of China and stimulate the awareness of national identity. To ensure the success of education in border provinces of China, some educated people have devoted themselves to the research of popularizing education in these places and achieved a lot, which has far-reaching consequences to today.Tracing back to the history is beneficial to the future. To reflect the borderland education in the Republic of China, we could find out that scores of talented people turned to education to solve the problems in border areas. The development of education in borderland was pushed by the national crisis. Especially after the Anti-Japanese war, Government and people from all walks of life gradually realized that education was the key to consolidate the national defense of China. In the early days of establishing Nanjing Nationalist Government, implementation of education in border provinces were only in the preliminary stage and researches were mainly on the suggestions of borderland education. Around the ten years of the outbreak of Anti-Japanese war, researches about education in borderland became more mature, because effective methods and suggestion had been proposed on the basis of the real situation of the war, national consciousness and national interests. With the victory of Anti-Japanese war, the situation in China is different from that in the past and researches about borderland education changes. They are mainly focus on the reflection of developments of frontier education in previous twenty years.For all researches about borderland education in the Republic of China, theatrical ones and suggestions for implantation of education are the two main types. Scholars then carried out studies of some certain research subject, analyzed and proposed solutions to promote the development of education in border provinces. All these researches provide some enlighten with the government to carry out the specific policies about education. And meantime, the success of these researches has close relationship with the support from the government.Researchers about borderland education in the Republic of China then were of various kinds, including teachers, officers, writers, journalists, anthropologists and sociologists. In addition to the general requirements, teachers, books, languages, teaching methods and other facilities for education in border areas have to accord with real situations and have its own characteristics. To catch up with the education in interior areas, it is necessary for borderland to bring in the advanced teaching thoughts, methodologies and facilities to develop the education there.
