The border areas education refers to the school education which carried on to the national minorities in the ethnic areas by the governments during the period of Republic of China. Southwest is the regions where ethnic minorities live in compact communities. As a result of all sorts of reasons,the education in the southwest boarder areas was backward continuously in its history. During the period of Republic of China, the governments at all kinds of levels brought it into agenda gradually and adopted many policies and measures to develop it. Generally speaking however, the governments foucsed on school education of several big national minorities in north and west areas of China in the pre-war period.The border areas education could not been valued enough in general southwest multi-national areas. During the Period of Anti-Japanese War,China was thrown into all kinds of juncture and the whole southwest areas became Rear arear of Anti-Japanese War lastingly.The importances of education in the southwest boarder areas had been paid great attention by people from all walks of life. It had the vital significance to China's lasting Anti-Japanese War, the national defense consolidated, stability and prosperity of southwest border area as well as the development of national culture harmoniously. In order to assimilate the ethnic groups, National government paid much attention to the boarder areas education and took some measures to promote it.The governments at all levels also coordinated quite positivly and a lot of colleges moved into the west. Owing to these reasons , the development was achieved abnormally and greatly on education in southwest boarder areas during the period of Anti-Japanese War. It is advantageous to impel the research of history of Chinese border areas and the Republic of China on studying this question systematicly and thoroughly.This thesis narrows its scope into six parts:In order to make basis for the writing of full thesis,the first part makes limits on the essential terminology such as the border area and the education of border areas and so on; The second part gives a brief introduction on the education in southwest boarder areas on both the undeveloped situation and the causes that made the education lag behind.Then mainly analyzes its origin from several aspects of the southwest ecological environment;The third part points out the importances of construction on the education in southwest border areas from the lasting Anti-Japanese War of China and the national defense as well as the develpment of national culture harmoniously;The fourth part makes some introductions on the policies and measures and some effects that taken on the border areas education by all levels of governments in the southwest areas;The fifth part elaborates the impetus function to the education of southwest border areas which made by universities moved into the interland from both theory and practice;The six part sums up its experiences and lessons that National Government developed the education of the southwest boarder areas during the period of Anti-Japanese War, and discusses its enlightenment to the development on the current education of the national minorities.During the period of Anti-Japanese War, the education of southwest boarder areas took hold of progress at a certain extent. At the same time, it also existed many problems. The purpose of the thesis is to sum up its experiences and lessons, and provide useful references for the development of ethnic minority education at the present time of developing of Western China on the basis of synthetically studying the practice of the education in southwest boarder areas during the period of Anti-Japanese War.
