In2004, the experimental reform of Shandong Province as one of the first pilot provincestook the lead in the new curriculum. In such a big environment, more and more people realizethe importance of music education. It has been thought that it can form the civilized behavior,promote the aesthetic ability, cultivate the spirit, and develop the intelligence and train theinsight and response ability. It is also playing an active part in the formation of psychologicalhealth. The music curriculum standard of the Senior high school proposed the new concept ofcurriculum:the music aesthetic is the coreto cultivate students’ interest in learning musicfor all the students, pay attention to personality developmentto lay stress on the practice of music and enhance the awareness of creationto enrich the national music, understand the cultural diversityThe importance of music teaching in secondary education stage has been written with theproposition of this concept. It is also pointed out,“the school music education must contain theteaching in class and extra-curricular activities, which is an integral whole. The music teachingwithout music extra-curricular activities, is incomplete music teaching.”The musicextra-curricular activities, from the improvement of students’ overall quality as a starting point,the extracurricular activities in the class as a practice stage, are playing a great role in the processof music educating. Therefore, music should be integrated into the extra-curricular activities,which can not only deepen the understanding of music but also improve the performance ofmusic skills and the students’ comprehensive music accomplishment. At the same time, it canstimulate students’ enthusiasm and the initiative of music learning, on the other hand, promotethe improvement of the music teaching quality and benefit to learning other subjects.How to organize the music extra-curricular activities well, especially in the middle school,is one of the valuable practical subjects in the new curriculum standard concept, which must playan active part in developing the students’ various abilities and improving the quality of the musiccomprehensively.This paper aims to seek effective strategies and propositions to the reform anddevelopment of the music education of Yucheng city middle school and extracurricular activitiesand put forward ideas and outlook for the extracurricular music activities in urban middle schooleducation through questionnaire investigation and research, studying and analyzing the existingproblems in the extra-curricular activities for urban middle school Yucheng City, expecting to establish persistent mechanism of music that is suitable for urban middle schoolextra-curricular activities. This paper is divided into three parts:Part1an overview of the basic education and school music education status in YuchengCityPart2the present situation investigation and analysis of the music extracurricular activity inmiddle school of Yucheng CityIt aims to study and analyze the existing problems in the extra-curricular activities for themiddle school in Yucheng City through not only questionnaire investigation and research butalso class observation.Part3to seek effective strategies and propositions to the reform and development of themusic education of Yucheng city middle school and extracurricular activities and put forwardideas and outlook for the extracurricular music activities in urban middle school educationIn conclusion, this paper is to seek effective strategies to the reform and development of themusic education of Yucheng city middle school and put forward constructive referencesuggestions for the extracurricular music activities in urban middle school education. Meanwhile,the research of this subject can not only provide objective scientific reference basis for the townmiddle school music education workers but cause all people who care about music education forconcern and thinking as well, facing the present situation of the music extracurricular activity inmiddle school across our country and discussing how to develop the music education together.
