Since Vector was introduced to the mathematics basic curriculum of high school,it has become one of the highlights of the new round reform of mathematicscurriculum, and the introduction of vector in solid geometry is the focus of theresearch. What mathematicians are concerned about is the mathematical superiorityof the vector method, what curriculum designers consider is that the vector methodis “one common law”, what the authority of the education department focuses on isthe influence of vector method on correct rate of problem solving. The main conceptof the new curriculum reform is student-centered, but how many people know whatrole of the vector method plays in the hearts of students? Understanding ofcurriculum standards thoroughly and grasping the key points of textbooks designers, and focusing on the development of the students from the action are the principlesthat not only the front-line teachers but also education scientific researcher mustalways stick to. In order to use of the vector method in solid geometry teaching inthe future properly, it is necessary first to study the receptivity situation in whichstudents solve the solid geometry with the vector method. The literature analytic method, the comparison analytic method and thequestionnaire survey procedure have been mainly used in the research to study thereceptivity situation in which students solve the problems of solid geometry with thevector method from the different aspects subjectively and objectively. The subjectsof the study are the science students who are required to learn vector method in thecurriculum standards. The study was completed after students had studiedmathematical science textbooks “Project3Vectors in Space and Their Applications”of senior three as scheduled. From the perspective of students, the study did notinterfere with their study of senior three. The questionnaire survey is only given tothose who took the test research, which guarantees the reliability of the study.Three conclusions have been drawn as follows in the research. Conclusion one:the receptivity degree of students solving the solid geometry with the vector methodis very high. Although using vector method is not so effective to improve the correct rate of problem solving, students are still more likely to use the vector method. Conclusion two: the students who use vector method to solve solid geometryproblems are still not quite confident. Students tend to use vector method excitedly, but it does not improve the correct rate of problem solving as expected. The gapbetween expectations and reality is regrettable, and we should pay enough attentionto it. Conclusion three: there are possible drawbacks in vector method. The mainreason why students choose vector method is that vector method may reduce thedifficulty of spatial thinking and logical reasoning, but it will also weaken thestudents’ space imagination, geometric analytical ability and logical reasoning ability.According to the conclusions above, three suggestions for the teaching of vectormethod were proposed to:(1) Overcome the potential drawbacks of vector method;(2) Advise changing the curriculum standards;(3) Lay emphasis on cultivating theability of students’ space imagination.
