English teaching in middle schools is more and more important. Especially theeffectiveness of English classes is attached much attention. Compared with teachingin other subjects, English teaching has higher requirements on Teacher LanguageAwareness (TLA), and developing TLA is necessary for English teachers. Concretelyspeaking, the teaching quality could improve significantly if teachers permeate TLA inclass properly and effectively. Then how can teachers improve TLA in English teaching?Reflective Teaching (RT) is one of the important ways. In terms of the Englishteaching in middle schools, there are three important steps, which are before class,after class, and during class. RT goes through all of these three periods. Only when RTis deeply understood and properly used, can it improve TLA effectively. Thus TLA canplay an essential role in English teaching.In the thesis, firstly, the research background, definition and methods of RT andTLA will be systematically introduced. Specifically, TLA will be treated in terms of TLAof structure and TLA of using. Then, questionnaires are designed for teachers andstudents aiming at the understanding and using of RT and TLA.In order to further research how to improve TLA by RT, an experiment isconducted for some English teachers in Shangwen Middle School. Through eightweeks, it is proved that RT indeed can promote TLA and bring the effectiveness forEnglish class teaching. Lastly, one teacher’s two classes: before and after theexperiment will be analyzed on the permeating of TLA. Then, it is concluded that:firstly, the students’ attitude towards English learning is further enhanced; secondly,the teachers’ class activities’ organization becomes more flexible; thirdly, theteachers’ roles in class are more proper; fourthly, English teaching becomes morepractice-oriented.It is hoped that certain practical value will be generated for those teachers whoare searching for the way to improve their English teaching competence.
