The picture book is the first book in children’s life. It is the starting point of their reading experience and an important channel to their outside world. In a pure and pristine way, excellent picture books reflect the childlike innocence, life philosophy and natural charm. In terms of creativity techniques, picture books create a rich world for children by applying picture language that fits the reading ability of children, expressions that fit psychological characteristics of children and a wide range of visual arts and literary arts.While reading picture books, children need to mobilize their existing knowledge and experience to develop new strategies to completely absorb the contents in picture books. As a result, reading picture book is a complex learning behavior and mental processes and will produce a huge impact on the development of children’s mind.In order to prove that reading picture books can impact the thinking process of preschool children, this article, through the interdisciplinary study of art and psychology, as well as operational experiments with quantitative experimental data, solves the following problems. First, would picture books affect the thinking process of preschool children? Second, would picture books shape the thinking ability of the preschool children? Third, do results of psychology tests confirm that picture books would help preschoolers to transform reading experience into knowledge and intelligence?Based on the facts learned from experiments, this article proposes suggestions for designing picture books to help children understand picture books and guide the development of children’s imagination, thinking and aesthetic capacity, increase picture books’impact on preschool children. And suggestions for the creation of picture books in our country.
