During the construction of a well-off society, the rapidaccumulation of material wealth and enrichment of spiritual life hasgreatly promoted the vigorous development of mass sports aiming atimproving modern people’s health and life quality. while being carriedout vigorously in reality, mass sports still needs further summing up intheory and theoretical guidance in practice. Under the very social context,in order to enrich the construction of socialist culture and meet people’sgrowing desire for mass sports, it is of great strategic and practicalsignificance to make investigations on mass sports which is closelycorrelated with people’s leisure life.Research methods such as documentation, interview, questionnaireand statistics were adopted in the present study. By taking the behavior ofmass sports in urban areas as the entry point and related literatures ofmass and mass sports both at home and abroad as the theoretical basis, firstly an investigation was made on the related theories on mass sportsand influences brought about by its development; then empirical researchand questionnaire analysis were carried out to survey the current status ofmass sports in Yulin urban areas; and finally several countermeasures andsuggestions on the optimize development of mass sports in the well-offsociety were addressed.Major findings of the present study can be summed up as thefollowing points:Firstly, the National Fitness Pregame are not fully implementedand well regulated and its level is still low and unsystematic. Secondly,as for the team construction of social sports instructors, much importanceis attached to the training while less to its management. That is to say, thetraining is organized at a high frequency whereas the training effect is notsound, which thus lead to a weak guidance on the scientific fitness ofmass sports. Thirdly, mass sports-related laws and regulations in Yulinurban areas needs improving and advertising. Fourthly, residents have noaccess to the nearby stadiums of organizations or schools, which locate inthe neighborhood of their resident buildings. Due to the government’s poor planning, sports field is not sufficient enough; vacant places besideboth sides of the roads are not fully utilized and the sports facilities arenot well-equipped. Fifthly, great gap exists between people’sinvolvement in mass sports in Yulin urban areas and its level of economicdevelopment. Sixthly, capital investment is limited and most workingexpenses are raised by public welfare fund from lottery.Suggestions implied by the present study can be summed up as thefollowing points:Countermeasures such as the enrichment of the organization offitness activities of mass sports, the encouragement of urban people’sgreat enthusiasm in fitness, the training of social sports instructors, andthe improvement of related laws and regulations should be implemented.Besides, government and press should cooperate more with each other toencourage Yulin urban people’s involvement in mass sports. For example, setting up healthy columns at places with crowds such as at squares. Theimplementation of those public activities should be reported in time viadiverse channels and ways so as to call on a public awareness to fitnessand active involvement in mass sports. With the rapid development of Yulin’s economy, mass sports hasentered a new era of development. However, by comparing with that ofother well-developed districts, people’s involvement in mass sports haslagged relatively behind, which is out of balance with the economicdevelopment of Yulin. That is to say, the leap-frog development hasbrought about great flourish in economy. Whereas, people’s awareness tomass sports involvement has not been aroused yet. In this case, only ifYulin people’s idea be changed can the development of mass sports inYulin urban areas be greatly promoted.More social investment should be attracted. During thereconstruction of state-owned sports land, a new perspective should betaken to exchange those undeveloped land for capitals and projects, so asto achieve a triple-win situation among government, enterprise and mass.
