Poem is the essence of Chinese culture. Modern poem, which began from the “May FourthLiterature Revolutionâ€, is an important point in the history of poem. Modern poem is written inmodern Chinese, In accordance with Chinese language habits. Compared with the classicalpoem, modern poem has a freer paten, wider content, is easier to be accepted and created.Modern poem is favored by the young people since the very beginning, and reach its peak in the80s. However, there is less and less people reading or writing modern poem. Even in the middleschool, it’s neglected. Many students, if not most, learn modern poem just in order to get a highscore in the entrance examination. They don’t know any poems besides these in the text book.What’s make things worse is that, they just dull to understand the meaning of poems. Fewerstudents can read a poem, let along write one.By analysis the teaching situation of modern poem in the middle schools, this thesis figureout defeat in the poem teaching.
