The system of teacher education in South Africa rooted in theapartheid system. The consequences were that curriculum, teachinglanguage and other things were branded with the mark of segregation.Until1994, South Africa’s African National Congress was born in SouthAfrica, which marked for the end of the apartheid system and announcedthe end of racial discrimination in teacher education. Teacher education inSouth Africa began a new chapter. In order to change the apartheidteacher education system, its government has been focusing on adjustingand improving its teacher education, since South Africa rehabilitated itsdemocratic system. The new government published many kinds ofpolicies to push forward and guarantee the development of its teachereducation, which has an important and profound influence on thedevelopment of standard system and quality guarantee system in teachereducation.This paper briefly introduces the development history of teachereducation and policy evolution in South Africa. It pointed out that theapartheid teacher education system was ethnicity partition, tremendouscost and low efficiency. In order to change that, the new government haspublished many kinds of policies. During the time, teacher educationpolicies’ adjustment appeared valuable experience and some problems in South Africa. China is similar to South Africa in the problems of teachereducation. So learning about how to deal with those problems has animportant enlightenment for China.
