| As a new course, Outward Bound, developed rapidly, has been introduced into China since1995. Because of its unique teaching form and good teaching effect, Outward Bound is accepted and recognized by more and more groups. In China, hundreds of institutions have already carried out all kinds of this course in higher education. Our countries promote quality education vigorously. Therefore, we put forward some new demands for the reform of the PE curriculum. The PE course must update the concept, fully develop and utilize the new curriculum resources. We should also get rid of the drawbacks of traditional education mode, and effectively service for the development of students’ physical and mental health.On the basis of reading a large number of literature references, universities in Nanjing as the research objects, we multiple utilize the research methods of literature references, questionnaires, in-depth interviews, statistics to investigate the Outward Bound status of the universities in Nanjing. On the analysis of curriculum, teaching resources, venue equipment, and security control, we approval some universities’ successful experience of Outward Bound and also analyze the problems and disincentives in the process. Based on these, we give reasonable proposals for universities to expand the Outward Bound courses. The study results showed that:According to the investigation of the universities in Nanjing, the result shows that Outward Bound have broad prospects in the universities. To develop Outward Bound courses, it’s not only in line with the need for the reform of college physical education curriculum, but also riches the PE teaching content. Therefore, it can comprehensively improve the students’ overall quality, promote students’ psychological health, and enhance the ability to adapt to the society. Outward Bound is not only the way to reform the Physical Education Teaching, but also the supplement the PE teaching of universityThe lack of teaching resources is the leading cause to hinder the development of Outward Bound to the universities in Nanjing. The demand of the Outward Bound teachers is large. We are in urgent need of professional training teachers. Colleges and universities should focus on expanding the cultivation of Outward Bound teachers and give positive encouragement. These can supply the safeguard of teaching resources for carrying out Outward Bound courses.Because of some university staffs’ lack understanding and low-level attention to the development of Outward Bound, these result in the inadequate of the venue construction and equipment unreached the requirements of Outward Bound, caused the slow progress of the course. Therefore, all colleges and universities should carry out the advocacy work to encourage teachers and students to actively participate in the Outward Bound, and deepen the understanding of it.Colleges and universities lack of funds. They don’t have sufficient financial resources to meet the expansion of Outward Bound’s venues, equipment, facility, teaching resources. Insufficient financial funds are the factor of hindering the development of the Outward Bound in the universities of Nanjing. On the appropriate collecting the funds from society and getting multifaceted resources, we can speed up the pace of introducing the Outward Bound.The safety factors also hinder the development of the Outward Bound courses in colleges and universities. It is recommended that the schools should strengthen the management and arrange professional staffs to exam the venue construction and equipment uses carefully. What’s more, they should inspect and maintain them regularly to ensure the safety of teachers and carry out the curriculum smoothly.The Outward Bound classes can be in various forms. At present, there is no unified standard format.
