Principal training in our nation has gone one by one from “Position training”,“Improvement training”,“Backbone training” to “Senior Seminar” in an orderly wayfrom1989till now. At first, merely a qualification training was required on theprincipal’s part, which is covered by the advocation of Educationalist and expertprincipal cultivation. Such progressive development and a higher requirement on theleading ability, management level and personal and professional quality of theprinciples are essential if principles are to better play their roles as the manager, leaderand decision maker of a school. They also promote and deepen the reform of basiceducation. Therefore, a research on principal training is of great importance.Literature metrology method is adopted in this paper to conduct a study of thepapers since1989concerning principal training. A summary of the features of thestudy in this period, an attempt to find the problems and to grasp the tendency offuture research and some suggestions on the research in this area are to be found inthis paper. With the China Academic Periodicals Publishing Library of NortheastNormal University Library CNKI as the search library, and “Principal Training” as thekey words,1264papers are found in this area, of which893are effective after siftingon certain conditions. The following are found out by the research:1. Principaltraining has gained lots of support from the government and relating training schools, thus fruitful results are seen;2. Most principal training belong to the thinking type andintroduction type, while Empirical research is wanted;3. Most objects of research arefrom colleges and universities, very few of them are the headmasters of middle schoolor primary school, who are also the trainees. So the principal training lacks a practicebase;4. A lack of research on the principal training in rural areas results in a bigimbalance of the research;5. A trend of diversification, specialization, openness, flexibility, equalization and internationalization is displayed in principal training, as ismanifested by the Literature metrology results of principal training.
