Study On Foreign University Governance Models

As the economic globalization, cultural diversity and the arrival of social informatization of the twenty-first century and the fierce international competition, the development of university is facing more complex social environment and a wide variety of social needs. Compared with the traditional university, the organizational structure of modern university is more complicated, the social function of university is also quietly changing.under the circumstances, all countries are in the study of how to establish and improve governing models of modern university, balance various social forces, and reflect all kinds of social benefits, give full play to the role of university in the future society. So it is a significant task that commonly faced every country to deal with the more complicated governance structure of modern university, handle the thousands of years of university tradition and the drastic changed relationship among social environment.This thesis is focused on the governance models of foreign university, which aims at providing some enlightenment for constructing suitable governance modes of higher education of our own country, On the basis of the specific description and analysis of the university governance mechanism of United States, Britain, France etc, put forward five primary models of board level governance in universities:faculty; corporate; trustee governance; stakeholder; and amalgam models of governance. According to the governance models, proposed the valuable theoretical perspective which is of deeply value of study, namely efficiency, effectiveness, participation, leadership and response to the environment, These perspectives are the most important issues of researsh in higher education and the mainly challenges faced by every country. Finally, based on the study of foreign university governance models, proposed some views and suggestions in constructing our national university governance models.Currently, our national university governance structure model is the "executive-led" structure, and the conflict of academic authority and administrative power is still exist and very sharp, various malpractice have hindered the development of the university. Therefore, It is of great significance to construct our national university governance models by the reference of university governance models of foreign country.
