The Transformation Of Structure Of American University

The study of University Governance Structure is one of the hotspots on Higher Education Research, governance theory expand the theory of university research, and then become a cutting-edge. This study focus on American University Governance structure, and we can draw a map of American University Governance Structure from a historical perspective, also we can find the universal law behind the transformation of structure of American University Governance from the view of Institutional Change and System Theory. What’s more, contact with our special political, economic, social and cultural context, then try to predict the trend of university governance structure may change in China.From the analysis of various periods of American University Governance Structure formation mechanism, the author summarized the law of University Governance Structure Formation:the power system of University Governance Structure, which is consist of history, environment and human, and determine the final form of the structure of university governance by the interaction between the three. Historical system affect the direction of University Governance Structure; environmental systems may range delimitation of the University Governance Structure; and the system of human determines when the university governance structure changes, and the form of change, and so on.The author also turn to our unique history and traditions, combined with the special political, economic, social and cultural contexts, as well as the human system, predict the future direction of University Governance Structure in China with the universal law.The author concluded that, the change of governance structure of the University depends on the change of our national governance structure; besides, industrialization, urbanization, informatization and marketization must take into consideration when we talk about the role of university; and also need to take into account in the old system, which may emerge stubborn and negative path dependence; and, as a promising countries, there is a hope to across the road traveled by the developed countries, and gradually generate a flatter, more efficient University Governance Structure which more in line with the logic of academic development.
