As a kind of children’s literature, picture books are considered to be "the first book of life". Through participatory observation, interviews and questionnaire survey methods, this paper adopts the combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods to collect data, which aims to explore the main basis and the specific standards on choosing picture books of lower grades’teachers and pupils in primary school, and then provides relevant suggestions for the lower-grade Chinese teachers of primary school, the authors of picture books as well as the pupils’parents.The paper objects fall on selective a total of73lower-grade pupils which from the first grade and the second grade in a primary school and68teachers randomly chosen from8public primary schools in Hangzhou. This study chooses picture books as the research material, and aims to explore the main basis and specific standards of choosing picture books through the activities of lower-grade pupils in primary school choosing books with the same title, characters but with different subjects in the three stages. Making "Questionnaire on the Current Situation of Choosing Picture Books by Lower-grade Teachers in Primary School" as the research tool, the study aims to get the general information about the understanding of the picture books, the creation of reading environment and the main standards on choosing picture books of the lower-grade teachers. The result shows that:Firstly, according to the important degree, the main selection basis of choosing picture books by lower-grade students in primary school are the picture, the text and the layout form respectively, the specific standards of choosing picture book are the picture, the color, the plot, the cover, the character in the story, the character in the picture, the form of special design, words and graphic proportion. Secondly, the understanding of the concept and value of the picture books by most lower-grade teachers of primary school are relatively scientific, but the cycle of updating picture books for class are so long. According to the important degree, the main standards of choosing picture books by lower-grade teachers for pupils are "to meet pupils’psychological age characteristics","the vivid and interesting story which is close to the pupils’lives’and "pertinent to the topic of the text unit with education significance" in turn. From the point of the picture books recommended by the lower-grade teachers of primary school, it has the problems such as single subject. Thirdly, the focus on the choice of picture books of the lower-grade teachers and pupils of primary school are different. Finally, the paper discussed the reasons of the differences and puts forward relatively suggestions to the lower-grade Chinese teachers of primary school, the authors of picture books and the pupils’parents respectively.
