Adolescent are at a key life period of both mental and personality development. Theirpersonal and social developing require the formation of social adaptability. Family, as thebasic unit of society, is the initial place for developing social adaptability. The socializationmentors of adolescent are just their parents, whose behavior and attitude to their children arealways affecting them. Thus, parenting style play a crucial role in affecting the mentaldevelopment of adolescent. For it determines the direction of individual mental developmentas well as the formation of well social adaptation. For this reason, this study aimed toinvestigate the characteristics of parenting style and adolescent social adaptation, as well asthe relationship between them, to seek for the right parenting style, which can help adolescentto create well social adaptability.This study analyzed the characteristics of parenting style and adolescent socialadaptation, as well as the relationship between them with independent samples T-test,ANOVA analysis, correlation and regression analysis. We concluded as follows:1.In general, what the adolescent most feel is excessive interference from father,overprotecting from mother and emotional warmth from both of them. For parenting style,there are significant main effects on gender, grade and whether or not single child.2.For adolescent social adaptation, there are significant main effects on gender, regionand grade. Interpersonal adaptability score of girls was significantly higher than boys. Higherthan the township’s urban adolescent in the psychological advantage of a sense ofpsychological energy, and the scores on the mind flexible dimensions and social adaptation.Significant grade differences exist in the mental energy, mental flexibility, social adaptability.With increasing grade, social adjustment, but a downward trend.3.There was an apparent relationship between Parenting style and adolescent socialadaptation. Significantly positively related to parental warmth and understanding andadolescent social adaptation of each dimension and total score were tested; parents’ severepunishment, refused to deny the youth social adaptability dimensions and total score weretested significant negative correlation.4.To some extent, parenting style could predict adolescent social adaptability.
