Study On Behavior Of Alcohol Among The College Students Based On Cultural Orientation

ObjectiveThe study is aimed to understand the cultural orientation and behavior of alcoholamong the college students in Wuhan, through the investigation and analysis ofdrinking alcohol and cultural orientation. It is also to discuss the factors related to thestatus of alcohol use, and provide scientific reference to prevent and control thecollege students’bad drinking behavior.MethodsUsing questionnaire designed by the American Nebraska Lincoln university alcoholand drug abuse prevention center, to investigate on both students from8universities.Totally1239effective questionnaires were obtained. The CMH-χ2test was used toanalyze the data of Classification, the t-test or ANOVA was used to analyzequantitative data, and the multiple unconditional logistic regression analysis was usedto analyze the drinking behavior factors.ResultsThe1239valid questionnaires were collected. There are637boys (51.41%) and602girls (48.59%).The ratio of male and female is1:1.Most students with19years old to24years old, accounted for88.46%; the main part are undergraduates, accounted for86.68%.Drinking among college students was common, drinking rate in the last year was74.76%, drinking rate in the last month was43.49%and the frequency of drinking islow. Drinking frequency and drinking rate were different in gender, age, grades and professionals (P <0.05). The composite scores of western culture tends had nosignificant difference in gender, age, grades and professionals. The recognitions ofsexism were different among college students in different gender, age, grades andprofessionals.The drinking behaviors of the college students were influenced by the sex, ageand the drinking expectation. The female (OR=0.45) and the older students (OR=1.27)and the students in the institution of technology (OR=1.89) with the culturalorientation had higher probability in the drinking behavior, while the students withnegative drinking expectation had lower probability.ConclusionsThe drinking phenomenon of the college students in Wuhan is rather common, but theoverdrinking behavior has not been serious. College students’ drinking behavior canbe influenced by drinking expectation. So we should strengthen the health educationof college students, help them to establish correct expectations of drinking and have ahealth drinking behavior, especially for high-grade male students.
