Teaching researcher is a staff of teaching and research department whose fundamentalduties is researching teaching and instructing teaching. Since the founding of new China,they have played a great role in improving the quality of primary and middle schoolteachers and teaching by researching teaching, instructing teaching, checking on thequality of teaching, compiling textbooks and teaching materials and organizing teachertraining and so on. However, with the development of the eighth elementary educationcurriculum reform, Teaching researcher’ professional level can not completely adapt to thedemand of the curriculum reform, which influence their function in the development ofelementary education largely. Therefore, there is the professional development of teachingresearcher that we must be pondered and explored.After giving a survey of the existing literature about teaching researcher, the studydetermines the research foundation and research issues. Next, the study investigates theprofessional development situation of the teaching researchers who work in3teaching andresearch departments of Lanzhou, using questionnaire survey and interview survey.Through the investigation, the study found that the teaching researchers have thefollowing problems in their professional development: the research consciousness andability of the teaching researchers need to be improved; the teaching researchers aren’tenough to pay attention to the effect of their work; the teaching researchers lack theconsciousness to ask for the time to research teaching and instruct teaching; administrativeaffairs disturb the teaching researchers’ fundamental work; the teaching researchers lack ofspecialized evaluation mechanism; the teaching researchers lack of a continuous andtargeted professional learning support; the teaching researchers lack of promotion andtransfer opportunities; the teaching researchers who are in change of emerging subjectsafter the curriculum reform work harder; there aren’t sufficient research funds; it’s anunfavorable state that teaching and research departments communicate and coordinatewith each other. Based on the result of the investigation, the study comes up with thesecountermeasures to promote their professional development: improving the researchconsciousness and ability; paying more attention to the effectiveness of teaching and research work; assuring the adequate time and funds of teaching and research work;establishing the professional development mechanism for teaching researchers; setting upthe pre-service and in-service integrated system about teaching researchers; supporting theteaching researchers’s work, who are in change of emerging subjects after the curriculumreform; strengthening the communication between different teaching and researchdepartments.
