In the second half of the20th century, the whole world mounted in variousfields, such as politics, economy, culture, education, science, technology, and etc.The patterns and features of the world have undergone huge changes. In China, atthe end of the early1980s, the Party Central Committee sounded the assembly ofthe reform and opening up which woke up China—the Oriental dragon, and strivedto construct the socialist society with Chinese characteristics.30years later, theancient China has fundamentally changed already. There is a new look on the vastland.Social being determines social consciousness. Tremendous progress of theworld and China has caused a profound change of social ideology and ethics. Thesocial culture presents rich, diverse, and innovative features, which changespeople’s value judgment and orientation. University is particularly sensitive in themodern social life. Whether it is mainstream or non-mainstream, the social cultureis often reflected first in university. University students are the most sensitive, mostopen and most dynamic social elites in the changes of the modern society. Any littlesign of changes in the global village will stir up them with large or small rippleswhich cannot be ignored in their comprehensive developments. Especially thenon-mainstream culture in university, directly or indirectly affects their valuejudgment and orientation, and affects their learning, life, and the development oftheir life. There are many factors which affect the students’ values. I do not want toshadow all of them. I only spread an exploratory research from the areas whichhave not been paid enough attention in the current academic research, namely,“theimpact of non-mainstream culture in university on students’ values”. This paperfirst made theoretical analysis on the mainstream culture in university and thestudents’ values. To make this research be significant, I developed a questionnaireof " research on the impact of non-mainstream culture in university on students’values” to check the current situation of the impact of non-mainstream culture inuniversity on students’ values, then made scientific analysis on the obtained data. The main purpose of the research is to solve problems. According to the positive, neutral, and negative impact of non-mainstream culture in university on students’values from the research, I suggested that we should take positive countermeasures:leading the non-mainstream culture in university with correct ideological andpolitical education. We should strengthen and improve ideological and politicaleducation in university, and vigorously promote the mainstream culture inuniversity. In the mean time, the ideological and political educators in universitymust bear the sacred historical responsibility. They must adhere to the rightprinciple, set scientific goals, and adopt positive approaches to lead thenon-mainstream culture in university correctly, to help the students build up theright values, and to cultivate the successors with all around development inmorality, intelligence, physique and art for socialistic building.
