The Values Of Childrearing Of Mother In One Of Hangzhou Elementary School Students At Grade One

The values of childrearing of parents are highly associated with their childrearing behavior.Since mother is the main educator in family, her values of childrearing are very important.The main purpose of this study was to investigate the impact factors of mother’s values ofchildrearing, to disclose the rearing methods, to find the difficulty about values ofchildrearing and to formulate possible process by grounded theory method. Subjects were19mothers whose child is studying in one elementary school in Hangzhou. The semi-structuredinterview was administrated to mothers selected from three different types of childrearingdifficulties according to self-report questionnaire.The results shown that childrearing values of mother were influenced by mother’s internaland external experiences. Internal experience included educational experience, socialexperience, personality of mother and child, mother’s anxiety and expectation. Externalexperience included social cultures, books, media and experience from other parents. Therearing methods included attitudes, parenting method and consequence. The attitudes includedauthoritative, democratic and consistent between family members. The parenting methodsincluded teaching by words, modeling and learning by doing. The most commonconsequences were reward and punishment. It depends on whether child meets mother’sexpectation. The difficulties of childrearing significant influenced mother’s self-confidence,rearing methods and time spent on rearing. Finally, this study found that the formation ofvalues of childrearing is a dynamic process, gradually formed and constantly changing baseon influence factors, rearing methods and the difficulties they met.At the end, some suggestions are proposed for childrearing and further study, according toseriously and thoroughly discussing by this research.
