Martial arts originated from the book of Changes, formed from medical science, dependent on military tactics and developed from art. The history of calligraphy can be dated back to the generation of words, which possessed the equal significance with martial arts in ancient China.Language and words are inseparable from the inheritance of culture. The classical poetry is the essence of Chinese language art. With the progress of history, it developed into a kind of arts gradually based on the basis of practical utility. As far as origin, art prototype, culture foundation and the aesthetic tendency are concerned, martial arts and calligraphy are similar or the same to each other. They both originated form the process of people’s production and work, possessing the same art prototype and sharing the same culture foundation---traditional culture. They are both influenced by the thought of Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism, not only focusing on the improvement of the art itself, but also advocating art’s influence and improvement on man’s accomplishment. They consider art as the art of man and man the man of art, tending to concerning more about the development of man than that of art.Martial arts and calligraphy share nearly identical standards and ways in aspects of structure, emotion, the use of words and the expansion of thought. They share the nearly identical art structure, art emotion, inner feeling, philosophical basis and the model of thinking pattern under its impact and the same standards to control words. The art learning process of the two influences and prompts each other to ascend the learner himself. Martial arts, classical poetry and calligraphy are all nurtured by Chinese traditional culture and undergo thousands of years’history to come here to stay. The three are connected and related to each other, sharing similarities from culture foundation to the way of thought, from the form pattern to inner emotion, and from technical details to learning process.
