With the technological development and social progress, the demand ofmathematics has been increased. Symbolic-graphic combination is an importantmode of thinking in mathematics, and it is being used more and more widely. Notonly in the paper for senior high school, but also in the paper for secondary highschool, symbolic-graphic combination can be found easily.Based on an open-ended questionnaire and interview with some students andteachers, this study analyzed the situation of symbolic-graphic combination insecondary high school, and on overviews of former studies, a theoretical hypothesiswas put forward in this study. After that, this study designed a preliminaryquestionnaire on secondary high school students’ cognition process ofsymbolic-graphic combination. Having been tested by two kinds of sample, theformal questionnaire was formed and reliability and the validity were tested out. Then the regular patterns and the characteristics of secondary high school students’cognition process of symbolic-graphic combination were studies. At last, severalsuggestions were proposed to education. The main results of this study are as follows:(1) The grade effect is statistically significant between secondary grade two andgrade three of symbolic-graphic combination in the same area. It tells us thatstudents in different grades has different cognitions, and the cognition developmentof symbolic-graphic combination is also not different.(2) In the test, the results of girls in secondary grade two is lower than boys, butin secondary grade three is opposite, girls are higher than boys. In the same sex, thegrade effect is statistically significant between secondary grade two and grade threein numbers to the shape except the shape to numbers and the shape and numbers.(3) The results of the test, students in the city are higher than those in thecountryside. And the grade effect is statistically significant between school in thecity and in the countryside in numbers to the shape and the shape to numbers except the shape and numbers.(4) The result of the test, boys are not different between in the city and in thecountryside, and their average is much closely. But the situation of girls is opposed.
