People in the information age have now met a demand for higher professional qualities, as a major force in information education, The level of information technology teachers ’professional development directly reflects,to a large extent, the progress of information technology. However, Information technology teachers in schools are put in an awkward situation. So teachers’professional development in information technology has always been in difficulty.The following study, based on the analysis of domestic and foreign reference material, teachers’professional knowledge, skills, information technology and information culture obtained through some related questionnaires and surveys, carries out a detailed investigation on the present situation which information technology teachers in Dongguan are facing.The article consists of six parts.Part I:An introduction. It describes the background, core concept, and current research on teachers’professional development at home and abroad. Then a summary in which the achievements in information technology education both at home and abroad are revealed. Lastly it puts forward the research method and direction.Part II:Studies on the significance of information technology education in middle school teachers’professional development and an elaboration on the theoretical significance and practical significance of this study.Part III:An investigation of middle school teachers’professional development in information technology education in Dongguan. On the basis of related reference material, A questionnaire of teachers’development in information technology in middle schools of Dongguan has been designed and an interview outline on the development of information technology teachers in Dongguan has also been composed through sample survey from15middle schools around Dongguan City.Part Ⅳ: A study on the problems of teachers’professional development in information technology. Through the analysis of survey, List a summary that contains all the problems that exist in the information technology education of Dongguan’s secondary schools.Part Ⅴ: An analysis on the causes that lead to the problems and from both internal (on the teacher’side) and external factors.Part Ⅵ:A research of middle school teachers’professional development in information technology teaching, teaching and research activities in schools, the individual teachers ’teaching activities such as the promotion of information technology teachers in middle schools professional development recommendations.
