Class is essentially an important part in school. With the development of the society, class management is currently becoming more and more complicated due to the eminence of students’ personalities and the increase in the number of only children and unattended students. Due to some historical reasons, the participant school in the present study implements hierarchical education, namely stratifying the students into A, B and C levels in accordance with their scores and performance. C-level classes mainly consist of lower-achieving or badly-behaved students. The C-level class that the researcher supervises has many lower-achieving students, which makes greater difficulty to class management. The present study conducted a questionnaire survey in a C-level class of a local school in Zhongjiang County, Sichuan Province. The researcher also interviewed two lower-achieving students to obtain more insightful data. The results show that these lower-achieving students are characterized by lower marks in exams, relatively ill behavior, emotional fragility, weak sense of independence and strong negative mentality. It is discovered that their family education has many problems, that the school overemphasizes students’ scores but ignores ideological and moral education, and that they have become the real disadvantaged groups in school. The present study attempts to analyze the possible reasons for this phenomenon from such perspectives as family, school and the society. In terms of class management, a few concrete measures are also suggested to transform these underachievers into healthy and happy students. |
