Realizing the harmonious unity of emotion and reason bears great significance in ideological and political education in colleges and universities. This thesis consists of five parts to analysis the general relation between emotion and reason in ideological and political education in colleges and universities, as well asthe solutions of achieving the harmonious unity of emotion and reason in ideological and political education in colleges and universities. Introduction, the first part, mainly iscusses the research status of this problem, and then determines the research approach, basic content and innovation of this paper. The second part, starting with the analysis of the connotations of emotion and reason, elaborates the concepts, importance and contents of emotional and rational education. Generally speaking, the relation between emotion and reason in ideological and political education in colleges and universities is harmonious and unified. However, in the current college ideological and political education, there still exits the imbalanced and conflictive condition between emotion and reason. The third part expounds the conflicts between emotion and reason and their harmfulness, as well as the reasons that cause them in college ideological and political education. These conflicts and contradictions influence and block the achievement of ideological and political education objectives. Furthermore, they cause the theoretical idealization and dogmatism in ideological and political education, the lack of vitality and overall planning in educational process, and the inefficiency of results in ideological and political education. The reasons that trigger their conflicts mainly include the insufficient of theoretical study, the educators’short of self accomplishment and their separation from the real needs of the current educatees, as well as the complicated influence from the environment. Part four analyzes the necessity and possibility of realizing the harmonious unity of emotion and reason. This not only is the embodiment of the aim, ideal pursuit and spirit of ideological and political education, but is the support of the potential of educatees and the qualities and abilities of educators. The last part puts forwards the solutions of achieving the harmonious unity of emotion and reason in ideological and political education in colleges and universities. In order to realize the harmonious unity of emotion and reason in ideological and political education in colleges and universities, we must:firstly strengthen theoretical research, establish scientific concept; secondly improve the emotional and rational qualities of the educators; thirdly raise the activity and creativity of the educatees, and improve the course practice; and finally optimize the educational environment.
