Problems exists that in our province high school chemistry teaching still pays more attention to knowledge impartation rather than value transmission and emotional cultivation, which results in the low interest in chemistry learning and the low ability to apply chemical knowledge to solve practical problems, therefore, it is hard to achieve the emotional goal advocated by the new curriculum. Situational teaching emphasizes that teaching occurs in a certain situation, that is, by creating a beneficial atmosphere to the mental development of students and creating a teaching situation closed to the students’ life, and it inspires students’inner learning emotion and lets students explore the knowledge actively and put the knowledge into practice. In the view of this paper, the application of situational teaching to the chemical class in Senior One can promote the chemical class to achieve the purpose of students’ development rather than simple understanding of knowledge so that it improves the overall chemistry teaching effectiveness in Senior One, which can avoid the problems such as the simply focus on the knowledge in the traditional class and the separation of the knowledge from the life. The paper firstly shows the domestic and international research on the situational teaching by means of literature review, and then it states its theoretical basis, the connotation characteristics and teaching functions. According to the present investigation of implementation of situational teaching in chemistry subject in Senior One, from the perspectives of the requirements of the new curriculum, the features of compulsory module books and the situation of students in Senior One, the paper analyses the necessity of the application of situational teaching to the chemistry subject in Senior One, summarizes the four principles of situational teaching and the procedures of preparation, creation, expansion, evaluation and the respective strategies. Finally, on the basis of the chemistry teaching contents in Senior One, it does practical research on the theories. As the result, the application of situational teaching is not only beneficial for the understanding of the content of compulsory module books, but also beneficial for the development of the students’learning interest, the emotion attitude and the formation of values.
