Grammar has been always a subject that draws much attention in the teaching field. Since18th century, the grammar teaching had been changing from the grammar-translation method to various kinds. During that time, some scholars held the positive view to grammar teaching while some had different idea. At present, the significance is undoubtful and the emphasis has changed. How to teach grammar becomes the topic now instead of whether to teach grammar. Especially for the senior middle school students, grammar is a necessary item of English.The cooperative learning theory became popular since the beginning of20th century and was applied into many research fields. The theme of cooperative learning method was accepted by the scholars and teachers gradually. In the Senior High School English Teaching Curriculum Standard, the goal of English curriculum is to make the students know the aim of English learning and develop their competence of initiative and cooperation. So, in order to explore the effectiveness of cooperative learning, the author conducted an experiment in NO.1senior middle school in Yanjin County.The experiment was conducted in the two classes of grade one. One of the classes was treated as experimental class, which was taught in cooperative learning method, and the other one was treated as the control class. The teaching period lasted for6weeks and the teaching material is the part of English passive voice. There were pre-test, cooperative activity, post-test and interview in the experiment. The research questions of this thesis are:1. Is there any remarkable improvement in the senior middle school students’acquisition of English passive voice after the application of cooperative learning method?2. How does cooperative learning improve the acquisition of English passive voice in the learning process?3. What is the feedback and attitude of the teachers and students after the experiment?After the experiment, the author collected and analyzed the data and concluded that there was improvement in students’passive voice in both classes. But the progress in the experimental class was greater than that in control class. And the feedback from teacher and students were positive to this teaching method. Moreover, there was also a change in the learning environment and students’ learning motivation. Therefore, cooperative learning method was proved efficient in the acquisition of senior middle school students’English passive voice.This thesis made an empirical study on the effectiveness of the application of cooperative learning in the acquisition of English passive voice in senior middle school. The author analyzed on the reasons and made some suggestion, hoping to be helpful to the future researches.
