Secondary vocational education is an important part of moderneducation, while Mathematics is the foundation of the students’professional courses and lifelong learning. But current situation ofsecondary vocational Mathematics teaching is not very well. In order toget a better understanding about the Mathematics learning situation ofour students, a survey has been carried out in this study, andappropriate improvements has been developed based on the results.The objects of this study are the first and second grade studentsof the Automobile Major in Jiangsu Province Wuxi AutomoblieEngineering secondary vocational school. The study was first carried outby a survey, then by analyzing the results, finally trying to develop thecountermeasures. Dimensions related to the survey are (1)understanding about the Mathematics and professional curses.(2)Emotional factors in Mathematics and professional curseslearning(including learning interest and learning attitude).(3) Habitsand methodologies of Mathematics and professional curses learning.(4)Feelings about the Mathematics teaching material.(5) Feelings aboutteaching methodology.(6) Feelings about evaluation method.Based on the analysis of the survey results, we found that thestudents majoring in automobile in my school did not realize thesignificance of the Mathematics course. They have utility thoughtsabout learning, they got weak foundations, poor study habits and theydidn’t form their own learning methods. However, they are moreinterested in specialized course and gradually be aware of thesignificance of the Math course. Current Mathematics teachingmaterials are kind of ‘one size fits all’. Either the teaching timearrangement of math content and their profession dont match, orsome useful knowledge is not included in the Mathematics contents. The Mathematics course is not playing the positive role of helping theMajor courses. Also, the teaching methodology and review process istoo traditional, more like a normal high school, not very related on theprofessional perspective.Based on the survey results, the study further puts forward thefollowing strategies:1) improving the awareness that mathematicsshould serve profession;2) introducing timely professional background,and choose the appropriate teaching content;3) enhancing thetraining of the Mathematics teachers;4) improving students learninginterest and their learning participation;5) Advocating the evaluationway of strengthening the process and minimising the result. Through theabove strategies, the writer hopes to change the studentsunderstanding of mathematics, improve the students interest inmathematics effectively, connect theory with practice better.Thus,mathematics can play an active role better as a tool. In thisway,we can realize the win-win situation of mathematics andprofessional education.According to the survey,we have a more clear understanding ofstudents math learning condition in our school. At the same time,aiming at the results of the survey, we Put forward the correspondingteaching countermeasures, which have good guidance significance toour teaching practice.
