Cooperative learning is defined as the instructional use of small groups so thatstudents work together more effectively to maximize their own learning. Cooperativelearning is an original and effective teaching strategy that has been generally acceptedin many countries. Because cooperative learning is one of the effective ways to solvethe problem of poor teaching efficiency, not only reinforcing the learners’self-confidence and improving their sense of responsibility, but also fostering theirindependent study abilities and the spirit of cooperation. As an effective, popular, andorganized teaching form in many countries in the world, cooperative learning canimprove the classroom atmosphere as well as the teaching effect. It enhances students’language usage competence, increases students’ self-confidence and develops learningspace. When the cooperative learning model has been applied in English teaching,students can be advantageous in promoting their academic record, and cultivation oftheir interest in learning English. Simultaneously, cooperative learning plays a positiveaction in the development of ability of social skills.However, different levels of teachers, different students and teaching environments,may affect the application of cooperative learning strategies. In the usual process ofteaching, many teachers often feel it is beyond their grasp, running into multipleproblems. They often find group cooperative learning to be a mere formality in theprocess of lectures. As a result, cooperative learning turns out to be not as effective asexpected.Therefore, this paper analyzes the cause of the vocational high school Englishteaching based on the questionnaire on cooperative learning strategies. It summarizesthe problems of cooperative learning in vocational high school English teaching, andsets a number of recommendations and implementation strategies.Hopefully, this research can provide a reference for the improvement of poorstudents’ quality in vocational high schools, by way of identifying an effective way of dealing with difficulties and improving the quality of vocational high school Englishteaching through finding problems in the vocational high school English teaching.
