Vocabulary learning strategies are skills, methods and actions that learners use in theprocess of learning and applying knowledge of English vocabulary in order to improve theefficiency of and achieve the goal of vocabulary learning.The present research adopted questionnaire as the methodology to investigate senior highschool students’ vocabulary learning strategies. The results are as follows.1) The senior highschool students are conscious of the vocabulary learning strategies that the new curriculumstandards advocate, but their ability of using them is relatively weak. In comparison, seniorhigh school students use slightly more cognitive strategies, sometimes use resource strategiesand control strategies, but hardly use social strategies.2) In contrast, female students are morecapable in using vocabulary learning strategies than male students.3) Between differentgrades of senior high school students, level of using vocabulary learning strategies of studentsin Grade2is higher than that of students in Grade1.Based on the research results, several suggestions are made. First of all, teachers shoulddesign questions appropriately, carry out reflective teaching and improve questioningtechniques. Secondly, teachers should guide students to reflect their vocabulary learning toimprove their use of vocabulary learning strategies. Thirdly, teachers should help students tobuild vocabulary network and use cognitive strategies comprehensively. Fourthly, teachersought to design reading instruction elaborately and use resource strategies properly. Last,teachers should motivate students to form the concept of cooperative learning and promotethe use of social strategies.
