Abstract/Summary:
Duan Fang was a great collector in late Qing dynasty,he inherited the characteristics of the traditional scholars,and started modern ways of collection.The first chapter will introduce the life and family of Duan Fang,there are two parts:one is his official circles,the other is about his life in studio.Duan Fang passed the imperial examination by the benefit from his father.Weng Tonghe helped him to recognize Guang Xu emperor.Duan Fang joined the Reform movement of1898,after it was failed,Duan Fang was accepted by Ci Xi empress dowager.From that time,Duan Fang became a high-ranking official.Duan Fang was fond of collections,like painting,calligraphy,bronze and so on. Duan Fang was friendly,he attracted many aides,they were very important to Duan Fang.The second chapter will analyse how was Duan Fang obtainen and lost his collections.He purchased some collections.his friends gave and exchange some collections with him. Duan Fang also gave some collections to his friends.His son sold many of Duan Fang’s collections.lt was typical in ancient collectors. Duan Fang got a large number collections through these methods.Many came from Huang Yi,Wang Yirong and Wu Dacheng. This chapter will introduce the Descriptions about Duan Fang’s collections.The third chapter will analyse the characteristics of Duan Fang’s collections,there are two points:l.it was the achievement of Duan Fang’s team. Duan Fang’s subordinates helped him to collect antiques,write the Descriptions.2.From the Reform movement of1898,Duan Fang was inclined to reformation.After returned from abroad,Duan Fang sustained to study occidental. He established the Tao Zhai museum, it was a part of his cultural and educational underkings. Unfortunately, the museum was stopped after the death of Duan Fang. During the Republic of China.the essence of Duan Fang’s collections was pulished in Shanghai.
