Since the1980s, the education in our country has transformed fromthe examination-oriented education into the quality-orientededucation. With the arrival of the21century, the students’comprehensive abilities, including the students’ all-arounddevelopment of moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic and laboringeducation, draw the public’s attention. In the process of performing theeducation reforms, the phenomena about the students’ lessonoverburden can not be ignored. While the overburdens on the primaryand junior school students have been lightened a lot, thecircumstances of the senior high school students have not beenpolished up. People wonder whether the relevant policies in highschools come into effect, what the dilemmas are and how we can findthe appropriate ways to solve the problems. All these aspects are worthconsidering deeply.This paper which is based on some studies in this filed takes Y HighSchool in Wuxi Province for example. By means of questionnaire surveyand interview, it introduces the current situation of the senior schoolstudents’ overburden, analyze the reasons and explore the ways todecrease the overburden, aimed at offering some effectivesuggestions about how we can light the senior high school students’overburden.This thesis is divided into five parts.In the preface, I introduce the background and significance of thisstudy, in which I consult some references about people’s differentattitudes towards the lesson overburden, along with the steps that havebeen taken to lighten the students’ overburden at home and abroad.According to the information, I select some useful methods.In the second part, I focus on carrying out some research on the development of the topic about lightening the overburden to hope tofind out the significance. I elaborate some useful concepts, includingthe lesson burden, the lesson overburden, the senior high schoolstudents’ overburden and lightening the overburden. On the basic ofthese contents, I put forward the bases of some theories and want todiscover the benefits of it.In the third one, I establish a basic research on Y High School inJiangsu Province. According to the questionnaires and interviews aboutthe senior high school students and the teachers, I conduct a studyabout the time of study, the understanding of texts, the examination,the students’ health in mind and body. From the inquiry, I find that thestudents’ lesson burden is absolutely heavy.In chapter four, I make an analysis of the causes of senior highschool students’ overburden. These elements are caused by the systemof the college entrance examination, the schools, the teachers, theparents, the emotional stress and so on. All these factors are harmfulto the students.In chapter five, I come up with some strategies focusing on thereforms of the policies about the college entrance examination, as wellas some ways referring to the school, the teachers, the parents and thestudents themselves, hoping to find out some effective measures andsuggestions which can be beneficial to the students.
