Having overwhelming advantage in number among the museums in Taiwan, the folk custom museums also boast mature operation modes and rapid development. The complex and varied social culture of Taiwan has nurtured different folk custom museums with various collections and management concepts. Meanwhile, the folk custom museums act to transmit different cultural memories in museum display and other activities and even constitute partial framework of certain culture through their actual existence, serving as a positive enlightenment to the research of the culture of Taiwan and the development of folk custom museums.From the perspective of collections, shows, architectures and activities, the thesis centers on the folk custom museums in Taiwan to explore the methods and the influence of their recording and transmitting cultural memories. What’more, the three folk custom museums with their unique specialties, located respectively in the west, east and north of Taiwan, represent the three culture modes with realistic significance in Taiwan, namely Chinese culture, south Fujian culture and Japanese culture. Through the combined research method of material analysis and fieldwork, this thesis reveals how the three museums shoulder their transmission task and realize their self-worth confirmation.In the end, based on the case study of the three classic folk custom museums, we will further explore the relationships they set up between man and material, between folk custom museums and culture of Taiwan, and the transmission methods and significance of folk custom in the multi-cultural systems.
