Since the concept of humanistic education prevailed in America from1960s and1970s, the educational trend of thought, which attaches importance to individual value, emphasizes the predominance of individuals who receive education and pursues the individual liberation, becomes globalized. The humanistic education concept shows respect for individual life value, advocates the goodness of humanity and stresses the development of individual potential. Hence,"People first" becomes an important part for the humanistic education. This view is the same with that advocated in the community education for it encourages people to pay more attention to the people’s problems concerned and endeavor for the happiness of individual life. This thesis, by analyzing humanistic education and community education comprehensively, observes the joint point of the two and takes the Xuexi Community in the North Gate Street of Xi’an City, where the community work are relatively successful with the help of humanistic education, as an example to objectively and scientifically expound on and research into the significance of the humanistic education in the community educational work through field investigation and data collection. In the end, the author proposes practical and feasible suggestions on how to carry out community education while sticking to the concept of humanistic education and puts forward some measures for reference concerning harmonious community education in the construction of socialism with Chinese characteristics. The research includes:Part1:Introduction. It introduces the motives for the research, the content concerning carrying out community educational work with the concept of humanistic education, research methods and innovative points.Part2:Overview of the humanistic education concept. Through the detailed presentation of humanistic education concept history, its characteristics and the profound connotations, it defines the essence of humanistic education concept. That is, on the basis of human nature, it aims at showing solicitude and respect for people and their development. People’s comprehensive development shall always be considered to be the top priority so that all the educational activities can cultivate people with integrated development to improve, develop and realize themselves.Part3:Current situation of the humanistic education concept applied in the community education. By combining the educational practice at Xuexi Community, North Gate Street of Xi’an City, it introduces the dissemination and role played by the humanistic education concept in the practical community work. It mainly includes:1. accept the humanistic education concept to serve the people wholeheartedly;2. launch the community education for the development of the whole residents in the community;3. carry out the community education with nationality characteristics based on regional culture;4. promote traditional culture and meet the requirements of personality development of the community residents;5. devote love to humanistic education and enhance community residents’life quality.Part4:Lessons learned by Chinese community education from humanistic education concept. It proposes some feasible and effective suggestions on carrying out the community education with the concept of humanistic education and predicts the new trend of community education development based on that research. This includes following five aspects:1. develop the community education with people first;2. prefect community education guarantee mechanism;3. enhance community workers quality;4. explore community education with Chinese characteristics;5. build stable and well-organized harmonious community.
