Reading comprehension is a unique human psychological activity, which is notonly the perception and understanding of words, but also the grasp and extension of thetheme and emotion. However, in traditional English teaching, teachers often focus onvocabulary, grammar knowledge and skills training, ignoring the affective education. Asa result, there are some problems in English reading comprehension teaching.The new “Ordinary Senior High School English Curriculum Standards(experimental)” advocates regarding affective education as one of the major teachingaims. Teachers should guide students to change interest into steady learning motivation,and enable them to establish high self-confidence, form the will to overcome difficultiesand cooperate with others, so as to develop harmonious personality. Looking at allcountries in all times, many scholars and experts have made lots of research aboutaffective education, but there is little about affective education for English readingteaching of Senior High School in our country. As a result, some teachers feel lost formaking affective aim come true in the practical English reading teaching.In this paper, the author takes reading teaching and affective education as theobjects. Through theoretical research and investigation, the author expounds the existingproblems in current teaching situation. Meanwhile, the author interprets the NewEnglish Curriculum standard scientifically, combines with the authors’ own teachingpractice, and acquires effective strategies about using affective education to optimizereading teaching under the current background, so as to advocate teachers regardaffective education as a key goal in the practical reading teaching, and guide students toachieve the purpose---enable students to read with affection, through a certain means.
