A Study On The Problems Of Higher Education Massifcation In Shanxi Province

Higher education massification is a trend of education development all over the world, and it is also an inevitable choice for China to face the challenge of knowledge economy era. Since our country carried out expanding university enrollment policy, the prologue of higher education massification has opened formally. Nowadays, with the publishing of "National medium and long-term educational reform and development plan", a series of relevant action plans and strategy projects will be unveiled. This is an important strategic opportunity for our country to promote higher education massification to develop better and further.With the promotion of expanding university enrollment policy around the whole country, Shanxi’s higher education has gained significant development and improvement recently. The rising strategy in central region of China has also provided important chances and conditions for Shanxi’s higher education. However, realizing the massification of higher education rapidly in such a short time promotes a rapid development of the society and economy, while on the other hand, it also has some problems which bring some bad effects on the higher education and society during the development process. Shanxi wants to realize economic and social transformation development, giving priority to the development of higher education is of first and foremost important, which propose a higher requirement to higher education’s development. Therefore, on the future road of higher education massification, Shanxi should pay more attention to its connotation and quality to promote higher education massification has a further development and lay a good foundation for realizing higher education popularization.This paper takes Shanxi Province as an example and focus on the change of gross enrollment rate of Shanxi’s higher education, based on which the paper expounds the developing process, present situation and achievements of Shanxi’s higher education massification and then analyzes the problems and reasons it may exist. What’s more, the paper compares Shanxi’s higher education massification with other provinces in central China to analyze the differences between them and sum up experience so as to think over how to solve the problems which exist in Shanxi’s higher education massification effectively and how to promote Shanxi’s higher education massification to develop better.
