As an important part in the Chinese study on folk belief and a major aspect in the studyof National autonomous county culture, the study of regional folk belief, has importantsignificant on the aspects which include the construction of local folk culture and the rising ofCulture industry. Based on the field survey, this selected title, is upon the folk culture studyof Liu Niang, who is the local patron saint with unique regional characteristics in Fu ChuangGuang Xi.It is an important method and also a consistent tradition for Chinese folklore studies toselect the hometown folk which you are acquainted with to conduct the field survey andresearch. So the author takes the Huainan temples, especially the Liuniang folk belief as atypical example for field survey, because they are the most typical case with condensedfunctions in the Fuchuan region. In order to carry out the filed survey, the author has madeseveral steps. First, he analyses the local environment that the Liuniang folk belief is based on,the tales and stories that it gets sources from, the temples it belongs to, the traditional folkactivities it has, and even the inheritance ways it forms. Second, he also analyses the culturalmeanings that the Liuniang folk belief has. And then, the author makes a research about thetransmutation process of the Liuniang folk belief in different ways, such as its function, modeof transmission, and ceremony activities and so on; otherwise, the author also analyses thecauses of its recurrence in1980s from the external and internal factors. At last, the authormakes a conclusion about the Liuniang folk belief’s social function, and points out itssignificance in the modern time.Although some negative things are unavoidable in the process of folk belief’s emersion,the author is still sure the rationality of the existence of Liuniang folk belief. It is important toemphasize that no matter how folk beliefs are developed and used as cultural resources ortraveling resources, folk beliefs should be fit for the reality and in scientific guidance andplanning.
