Correct measurement and evaluation of human aerobic work capacity has important significance, and maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) is the most important index. Among the methods of the aerobic-capacity-evaluated, a quantitative load exercise test is relatively common.Step test is a widely used exercise testing to assess cardiopulmonary all over the world, which is a classic quantitative load test. Step test has indoor test advantages:convenient to control and simple, it can carry out large scale test, but the doubts on the validity of step test index for evaluate cardiopulmonary function never stop. Nevertheless, in our country, step test has been widely used in various sports departments and schools, especially in the national physique monitoring and health standards of students’physique evaluation. Therefore, this study selected two different level step tests from the national physique monitoring and health standards of students’physique evaluation as a quantitative load test representative,84college students (male40, female44) as the research objects, who are18-22years old without exercise training experience from Beijing Sport University. By comparing the step test with the Bruce treadmill testing, which can be Mark, th study tried to set up a step test evaluation of aerobic capacity model and provide reference basis for improvement of the step test and the evaluation method. The conclusion of this research is:1, As a classic quantitative load experiment, step test can not reach maximum intensity. However, the correlation between step index and V02max is good, so step index may become one of indexes to evaluate aerobic capacity2, From the intensity reflected by oxygen uptake, step test has moderate to strong intensity, it has certain basis to be used to evaluate the aerobic capacity. It can be considered from the evaluation methods to improve the validity of step test. 3, It is higher determining exercise intensity from the heart rate than from oxygen uptake. However, the correlation between heart rate and VO2max is good, so immediate heart rate may become one of important indexes to evaluate aerobic capacity, but it also need other indicators to correct.4, the overall formula, which is suitable for18-22years old common students, is better than segregated hypothesized formula, to predict V02max. The formula is:V02max (ml/min/kg)=6.566-0.719X Body fat percentage (%×100)+0.25×lower step index+0.23×height (cm);V02max (ml/min/kg)=4.198-0.685×Body fat percentage (%×100)+0.337×higher step inde×+0.226×height (cm). From the formula, it is seen that the percentage of body fat accounted for a large weight. The results showed, the body fat percentage is closely correlated with V02max, it is recommended strengthening the study of the effects caused by body fat percentage in the future studies.
