Inquiry learning is developing with the educational reform and curriculum reform. When it comes to acquaintance to it, there’s much shortcoming not only for students but also for the teachers, most of whom called it "investigative learning", regarding it as theme research, part of "integrated practice" rather than an inquiry learning activity which can be used by teachers and students and put into practice on the English class. According to The New English Curriculum Criterion, combining inquiry learning with senior class English teaching is of great importance, which adapts to modern society, promotes the high school English curriculum reform and contributes to the realization of educational goal.There’s a huge gap in idea and practice of inquiry learning for teachers and students, so this thesis mainly deals with how to apply inquiry learning to English class and how to make inquiry learning help teachers to teach and students to learn, aimed at changing the teachers’teaching ideas and teaching behaviours as well as students’learning concepts and learning behaviours with the result that Senior English teaching can help improve the emotion, attitude and value of students while helping acquire knowledge and skills, which better develops the students as a human being. Using the students taught in my class as research objects and based on many years of senior English teaching experience, writer put forward the "three having" principles including "having meaning","having support" and "having assessment", which can effectively help put inquiry learning into practice on class English teaching. Thesis deals with the definition of the "three having" principles and detailedly expounds the concrete methods of how to put it in English class and how to make it function well. This thesis also analyzes the relations among the "three having" principles, which connect, influence and promote each other.Depending on the "three having" principles, this thesis uses the concrete teaching materials and methods to apply inquiry learning to class English teaching and proves the effect of it by survey, interview and English grades of the students tested before and after the implementation, finding that teachers’role is changing and obvious changes take place not only in teachers’teaching ideas and teaching behaviours but also in students’ learning concepts and learning behaviours, which proves insisting on the "three having" principles in class English teaching is feasible and inevitable and helping improve the verbal and nonverbal development of students both physically and mentally. Inquiry learning helpfully creates opening environment for students to learn and diversely provides chances for students to acquire knowledge, contributing to active learning of students and making them understand learning to learn. Since inquiry learning develops students’ innovative spirit and practical ability, how to make it applied to class English teaching is very important, which helps students to acquire new learning methods and assists teachers to update teaching ideas and change teaching behaviour.
