| According to the new curriculum reform, the purpose of the middle school English teaching is to emphasis on reading ability. This shows in the middle school English reading teaching the basic purpose is to cultivate students’independent reading ability, which teaches the student the methods and techniques to study English. And as for the large Numbers of rural middle schools, students’ English reading ability is always left behind. Many rural middle school students have difficulties in English reading.With the globalization of economy development, the growing foreign trade demands more and more persons who can read in English in our country. So, first of all, improving the English reading ability in rural middle school is the needs of the community; Second, to improve their reading ability is to improve the overall capability of using English; Again, reading ability is the importance in the tests and the exams; In addition, higher reading ability can cultivate people with rich humanism. Therefore improving reading ability is important for students’ English ability, English reading teaching in rural middle school plays an important role to improve the whole rural middle schools’English.Based on the theoretical research, and combining with practice, this paper first discussed the development process of English reading, and generalizes the English reading teaching about the domestic and foreign research conclusion. Comparing the urban middle schools and the rural middle schools, there are many disadvantages in the teaching in the rural middle schools. Through the questionnaire analysis of the students, the author found that in the rural middle schools, there are many problems in English reading teaching, such as the teaching materials are too difficult, the students dislike English reading, students have little reading methods and skills, students have bad reading habits, etc. And as for the rural middle school teachers, many of them are not clear to the reading teaching goal, and the curriculum is not reasonable, the reading classes are not more enough, the classroom teaching ways are boring, tthe lack of reading English atmosphere in schools, etc.Based on the author’s teaching experience in rural middle schools, the author put forward Suggestions about improving English reading teaching in the rural middle schools. The suggestions include different advice to the curriculum, teaching material, schools, rural middle school students and the teachers. The author suggested that the teaching materials should be easier, and schools should improve the English learning curriculum, the reading classes should be increased, English learning atmosphere should be improved. And as a teaching main body, students should pay attention to study, have more English reading, learn more reading methods, which are the basic conditions for improving their reading level. Rural middle school teachers should improve their own research level, and make clear the purpose of reading teaching, try to use the flexible teaching methods for reading teaching, which are the keys to improve students’ reading comprehension. |
