Objectives:To discuss the condition and career expectation influence factors on occupation plan of thenursing postgraduates, to master the application of SWOT analysis and understand ownadvantages, weaknesses, opportunities and pressure, and evaluate oneself accurate, reasonablecareer orientation, scientific career plan, to set up the training of personal development planningstrategy and provide reference for graduate schools of medical colleges and universities set up.Subjects and methods:Using the class sampling method select the Shanxi Medical University, Tianjin MedicalUniversity, Beijing University, Hebei Medical University, Hebei Union University and XinxiangMedical School’s nursing postgraduates in grade one, two and three for investigation subjects.219 valid questionnaires out of 240 questionnaires (91.3%) were received. Using the SPSS19.0software to carry on statistics processing, mainly including the statistical description, the T-test,the variance analysis and the chi-square test and so on .The interview subjects are nursingpostgraduates from Shanxi Medical University. Total of 12 people: 4 people are graduates and 8people are studying in school.Result:1. The questionnaire results showed that:①Self-perception: nursing postgraduates have a higher score of their own personality, interests,abilities, and score, their favorite career and graduate school during the development plansscored lower, and in their professional preference scored lowest.②Grasp of the future career: 52.5% of the nursing graduate always consider the efforts of futurecareer development, but did not have to pay; 44.3% of the nursing graduate is determined thegraduate career goals during period of studying for master degree; nursing postgraduatesconsider the choice of occupation up to the stable and secure factor, and only 2.7% look for helpfrom professional organizations.③The cognitive aspects of career planning: Career planning cognitive gain from the schoolcareer center only 0.5%, less know of career planning is accounting for 68.0%.④Expectations on career planning guidance: only 1.8% of the nursing graduate schools are verysatisfied; 35.2% of nursing graduate students are looking forward to provide career planningguidance. 2. No significant difference was found among the nursing postgraduates of differentgenders, grades, family regions or college(sP﹥0.05). Different schools of nursing postgraduateson occupation plan expectations had no significant difference (P﹥0.05). Difference of significance were found among those of different colleges(P﹤0.05).3. The influence factors about nursing postgraduates on career expectations include four aspects:Social, school, individual and family factor. Through the investigation, first five affects ofchoosing profession in turn: individual values, employment situation, whether solve theestablishment, salary and employment policy.Conclusions:1. According to the investigation, we know nursing postgraduates have already realized theimportance of career planning, but do not have the long-term career plan consciousness, andmost nursing postgraduates determined their career objective during the period studying formaster’s degree. Nursing postgraduates have the strong desire to gain the knowledge of theprofessional profession planning, but the college of nursing improve the information can notreach their requirements. The college teachers should do more work in order to instruct thenursing postgraduates. At the same time, nursing postgraduates facing career confusion shouldlook for help from professional organizations.2. According to the interview, the motivation of nursing postgraduates in looking for work isintensive and positive. But their employment expects is high, especially the working place andthe salary. They can’t define the role of their career life accurately. They should transform theirattitude when they looking for work, and then holding the opportunity, lower their expectedvalue, to work at the right position.3. Using the SWOT theory displayed the opportunities and strength、weaknesses、opportunities、threats of nursing postgraduates which faced in the process of looking for work, and proposedthe strategy corresponding to their situation (SO strategy, WO strategy, ST strategy and WTstrategy). It will make the nursing postgraduates realize the problem that they faced in theprocess of looking for work, and it will be a lesson for nursing postgraduates.
