With the improvement of living standard and material standard, the rapid social development has made a relatively big impact on both physical and mental health of primary and high school students in China. The old health education teaching model can no longer meet the growing demands of students in terms of their health and education, or the needs of our country’s social development. This age is characterized by quality education, so the development of diverse school cultures and the establishment of the perception of lifelong sport have encouraged students to demand for EP courses and health education contents in diverse forms. The understanding of students’ health has shifted from simple physical health to a comprehensive development which includes physical health, mental health, moral health and adaptability to society. However, great importance has not been attached to health education by society and schools and primary and high schools do not pay enough attention to it either. Teachers just follow textbooks without any adjustment, thus, this inflexible education model, neglected by parents and students, has put itself into a negative situation where the functions and value of health education cannot be fully utilized. With the development of school education, the new curriculum reform requires higher standards for teachers who should get rid of the outdated education model, reexamine their education perception and arrangement, and make efforts to establish a brand-new people oriented education model based on the comprehensive development of students. This paper adopts several methods including literature survey, questionnaire survey, data analysis and interview for the purpose of making research on the current situation of health education and its teaching model in Chongqing, so as to find out the major problems in this respect. With a lot of literature materials and analysis, this paper puts forward a series of methods and theories to establish a proper health education teaching model and an assessment system from the four aspects, theoretical contents, teaching targets, procedures and conditions. The analysis of the characteristics of the three innovative health education models comes to the conclusion that the current health education is no more a simple impartment of health knowledge, but is conducted in a broad sense, helping students to understand health knowledge, establish their personalities, cultivate their moral sentiment and adapt to social changes. However, the traditional one-way teaching model, only meeting the demand of imparting health knowledge, can not facilitatestudents’ subjective initiative and their innovation. Therefore, the traditional teaching model should be gradually shifted to an innovative one which can give a full play to students’ initiative and innovation. Based on the research in this regard both home and abroad, it is believed that either from the perspective of theory and practice or of assessment object, content, process and method, the health education teaching method should be multidirectional, multileveled and multilayered.
