Family plays an important role as the basis of society. With dramatic social transformation, great changes are taken place in family, with a smaller and simpler trend. Attention and analysis to the development and transition of family can be beneficial to stable family building and harmonious social establishment.Narrative research method is adopted in the paper and a united family in rural Northern Sichuan Province is used as the case to describe its30years’development and transition process. Fisrtly, the development process and transition story are described truthfully according to plenty of materials by deep interview and field study. Secondly, with the respective of Chinese cultural tradition and social environment, the strength by which the united family is maintained and the process and representation model of family transition is analyzed.Through the case analysis, the conclusions are gained as follows. First, real social environment, Chinese traditional inertial power and traditional family culture play important roles in family transition so that the united family can preserve long-term. Second, in the context of social transition, changes are taken place in the family relations either, with a transfer from parent-child oriented to husband-wife oriented, reflecting in many ways like the change of marriage and birth idea, imbalance in intergenerational relations and cultural feedback and so on.
